IDO'S Clinic is a doctor-led aesthetic and laser chain, and its one Penang branch sits in Bay Avenue, Bayan Lepas, close to Queensbay. The group is known for Fotona lasers. It also treats pigmentation, birthmarks, acne, unwanted hair and stubborn fat. Here is what we could confirm about the Penang outlet, and what you should ask before you book.

Overview of IDO'S Clinic

IDO'S Clinic (also written Ido's Clinic or iDOS Clinic) began in 2010. Today it runs 13 branches across Johor, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Penang. The company behind it is Apex Clinic Sdn Bhd, based in Kulai, Johor. The Penang outlet in Bay Avenue is the group's only branch in the north.

The website calls the group a "Doctor-Led Aesthetic Clinic". It also says the clinic is backed by a Fotona brand ambassador and has over 14 years of experience. In addition, the site footer shows a Ministry of Health advertising approval number, KKLIU 0268, valid to the end of 2028.

Is the Penang branch still running

Yes, as far as we can tell. The official homepage and contact page list the Bay Avenue branch with its own phone and WhatsApp line. The group blog had new posts in September and October 2026. Google reviews for the branch run from late 2025 into early 2026, and we found no closure notice.

How this IDO'S Clinic review ranks it

We place IDO'S Clinic ninth in our top 10. Its strengths are a clear laser focus, a founder with an international laser teaching role, and steady patient feedback. However, the group does not name its Penang doctors or publish any prices. It is also not a dermatology practice, so it fits cosmetic and laser goals better than skin disease.

About the doctors at IDO'S Clinic

The official site shows 22 doctors for the whole group. It does not say which branch each doctor works at, so the Penang roster is not published. The list includes a medical director, a senior clinical director, four senior physicians and 16 physicians.

The founder

Dr Lucas Chia Liang Choong founded IDO'S Clinic in 2010 and is its Medical Director. Listed qualifications are an MD from Queen's University Belfast and a Diploma in Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University. Dr Chia also holds FRCP fellowships from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Dr Chia is an International Expert Clinical Lecturer with the Laser & Health Academy and received the Fotona Ambassador Award in 2024. Dr Chia also leads WeCoMed Clinic in Singapore. Our sources do not say whether Dr Chia sees patients in Penang.

What these titles mean for you

Dr Chia is an aesthetic and laser physician, not a dermatologist. No source places any IDO'S doctor on the National Specialist Register for dermatology. A dermatology diploma is useful training, but it is not the same as specialist registration.

So when you book, ask which doctor works at Bay Avenue on your chosen day. Also ask about that doctor's training in the treatment you want.

Services and treatments

The group sorts its menu into skin, face and body. Skin work covers acne treatment, melasma and pigmentation treatment, birthmark removal, pore care, carbon peel and the removal of moles and benign growths. Face treatments include HIFU lifting, botulinum toxin for jaw slimming, fillers, dark-circle care, lip treatments and laser removal of brow or eyeliner tattoos.

On the body side, the list runs from Freeze Lipo fat freezing and calf slimming to laser hair reduction and tattoo removal. It also covers botulinum toxin for heavy sweating, hand and arm rejuvenation and laser vein removal. Fotona laser work, including the Fotona 4D laser facelift, runs through much of the menu. These are group-wide service pages, so ask the Bay Avenue team which options they offer on site.

Conditions treated

The group's pages name a long list of concerns. Pigment problems feature strongly: melasma, sun spots, freckles, Hori's naevus and dark marks left after acne. Birthmarks such as Nevus of Ota, café-au-lait spots, port wine stains and haemangiomas also appear. Then there are acne and acne scars, large pores, dark circles, sagging skin, moles, unwanted hair, tattoos, sweating, veins and stubborn fat.

Most of these are cosmetic or laser-led concerns, which is where this kind of clinic is strongest. However, a mole that changes shape or colour should be checked by a dermatologist first. The same goes for severe acne or a rash that keeps coming back.

Technology and equipment

Fotona lasers are the group's signature. The official site names Fotona systems, and the Bay Avenue branch appears on the clinic list of Fotona StarWalker Malaysia, the brand's local distributor. Fotona is a family of laser platforms, so ask which model the Penang branch uses.

The group's service pages also name several other device types:

  • Picosecond and Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers: generally used for pigment, birthmarks and tattoo removal. Read more on our pico laser page.
  • Long-pulse Nd:YAG, KTP and pulsed dye lasers: named as options for birthmarks; such lasers are commonly used for red and vascular marks.
  • IPL: a light-based device often used for redness, sun spots and hair reduction.
  • HIFU: focused ultrasound, used for skin lifting and tightening.
  • Freeze Lipo: a cryolipolysis device that cools small areas of fat.

Results vary from person to person, and several sessions are often needed. The device list covers the whole group, so confirm what is in the Penang room before you book.

Pricing at IDO'S Clinic

IDO'S Clinic prices are not published on the official site. We also found no verified price list elsewhere, so we cannot quote any figure.

At your consultation, ask for a written quote that shows the cost per session and how many sessions the doctor expects. Also ask whether numbing cream, aftercare products and follow-up visits are included. If you are comparing clinics, ask each one the same questions so the quotes line up.

Location, parking and branches

The branch sits at A-16-1, Lorong Bayan Indah 4, in the Bay Avenue development of Bayan Lepas. The clinic itself labels it Bay Avenue (Queensbay), so it is in the Queensbay area on the south-east of the island. For people who live or work around Bayan Lepas, that makes it a handy local option.

Parking and wheelchair access are not covered on the official site. As a general tip, call or WhatsApp ahead to ask where to park and whether there is lift access to the unit. There is no other IDO'S Clinic branch in Penang. The other 12 outlets are in Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Opening hours

The official site does not publish opening hours for IDO'S Clinic Bayan Lepas, and we could not verify them elsewhere. Please WhatsApp or call the branch on 012-412 5992 to confirm hours before you visit.

The official website does not publish hours. One third-party directory (aestheticclinics.my) lists Mon-Fri 10:00-18:30 and Sat-Sun 9:30-18:00, open daily. This could not be cross-checked, so call or WhatsApp the branch to confirm.

What patients say about IDO'S Clinic

On 14 October 2026, the Google Maps listing for the Bay Avenue branch showed 4.1 stars. The clinic's own website also shows a Google review widget, which displayed 4.3 stars from 303 reviews the same day, so the figure depends on when and where you look. Many reviewers praise warm, attentive service at the front desk, and the assistant manager is often named. Others say the doctors explain each treatment clearly and in detail.

Several patients describe visible change in pigmentation or under-eye bags that still looks natural. Reviewers also mention calm, comfortable rooms and short recovery time. However, the feedback is not all positive. At least one patient found an eye-area laser painful, saw no change and felt it was not worth the cost.

Who this clinic is best for

IDO'S Clinic suits adults in the south of the island who want laser or cosmetic care. Good examples are pigment, birthmarks, laser hair reduction, tattoo removal, HIFU lifting or fat freezing. It also suits people who want to try Fotona-based treatments.

If you have a medical skin problem, such as a changing mole, eczema or severe acne, see a dermatologist first. Lim Skin Specialist Clinic and Gleneagles Hospital Penang dermatology are both dermatologist-led.
