UR Klinik Review: Pigmentation-Focused Aesthetic Clinic in Bukit Mertajam, Penang

UR Klinik Penang outlet shopfront (official 'Penang 4 Outlets' banner)

UR Klinik is a skin pigmentation clinic with four outlets across Penang, in Bukit Mertajam, Butterworth, Greenlane and Gurney. It focuses on dark spots, freckles and melasma, treated with its own "Light Therapy" programme. This review explains what the clinic offers, who treats you, and how to choose the outlet that suits your side of the bridge.

Overview of UR Klinik

UR Klinik describes itself as a skin pigmentation clinic, and its logo carries the Chinese name 光疗祛斑诊所, which roughly means "light therapy spot-removal clinic". The brand began in Bukit Mertajam in 2014 and was once known as UR Skin. It is run by a company called UR Virtue Berhad, and it also has outlets in the Klang Valley and Johor Bahru.

A clinic with one main job

Most aesthetic clinics in Penang offer a long menu of lasers, injectables and body treatments. UR Klinik works differently. Its menu centres on uneven skin tone, so nearly every service targets some kind of pigment. The clinic markets its light-based approach as an alternative to traditional laser.

This narrow focus means the doctors see the same concerns every day. However, you will not find acne care, fillers or anti-wrinkle injections here.

Where UR Klinik sits in our ranking

We rank UR Klinik sixth in our top 10 skin clinics in Penang. It earns its place through easy access on both sides of the channel and a clear, simple process. Meanwhile, it loses ground because no prices are published and no doctor is a registered dermatologist.

About the doctors at UR Klinik

UR Klinik says its treatments are carried out only by qualified doctors. The team page lists a large group of doctors across all outlets in Malaysia, so not all of them work in Penang. Every listed doctor holds a basic medical degree (MD or MBBS) plus an aesthetic medicine certificate. None is described as a dermatologist.

Doctors listed at Penang outlets

The official roster assigns some doctors to each branch. We list the ones whose full names and registration details are published. Note that the roster may be out of date, so confirm the doctor when you book.

  • Greenlane: Dr Fong Toh Jeng (MD, USM), Dr Teh Weng Terr, Dr Nicole Ng I and Dr Cheah Phei Chuin (Cheryl), all with MBBS degrees from AIMST except Dr Fong.
  • Bukit Mertajam: Dr Lim Lee Naa (Leena), MD (USM), with a US certificate in dermatology and aesthetics and a postgraduate certificate in dermatology (AFPM).
  • Raja Uda: Dr Ng Chia Wen (Jovyn), MBBS (UM), with a postgraduate diploma in dermatology (AFPM); and Dr Chang Hui Xian (Rozanne), MD (USM).
  • Gurney: Dr Yuen Shan Ling (Eve), MD (UKM), and Dr Lim Jia Ying (Jem), MBBS (AIMST).

What the credentials mean

Each of these doctors has an LCP reference number for aesthetic practice. An LCP is the Ministry of Health credential that allows a registered doctor to perform aesthetic procedures. Some also hold a certificate or diploma in dermatology. That is useful extra training, but it is not the same as specialist registration. So these are aesthetic doctors, not consultant dermatologists.

Services and treatments

Each visit follows three steps. First, staff run a 3D skin analysis that looks at the surface and deeper layers of the skin. Then you sit down for a one-to-one consultation with a doctor. Finally, the doctor suggests a treatment from the clinic's Light Therapy range.

That range has three named treatments. Spectra Whitening aims at pigment in a deeper skin layer and at overall tone. Ruvy Touch targets freckles, age spots and surface pigment. Gold Light, the clinic says, targets blood vessels and inflammatory cells behind stubborn spots. There is also a five-step medical facial called Oxy-Infused, for cleansing and hydration. New patients will see a trial offer called "Goldius Glam First Trial". For a wider look at the options in Penang, read our guide to pigmentation treatment in Penang.

Assessment

  • 3D skin analysis
  • 1-to-1 doctor skin consultation

Light Therapy pigmentation treatments

  • Spectra Whitening (deeper-layer dark spots, brightening, skin tone)
  • Ruvy Touch (freckles, age spots, superficial pigment)
  • Gold Light (stubborn dark spots; targets blood vessels and inflammatory cells; helps prevent recurrence)

Facials

  • Oxy-Infused 5-step medical facial (deep cleansing, rehydration, anti-ageing)

Conditions treated

UR Klinik treats pigment problems only. Its site covers general hyperpigmentation, dark spots, freckles and age spots. Its blog and research pages also discuss melasma, sunspots, ABNOM (a type of bluish-brown patch on the cheeks) and marks left after acne or inflammation.

Pigment concerns are usually cosmetic, but not always. A new, changing or irregular dark spot needs a proper medical check before any cosmetic treatment. In that case, see a dermatologist first. In Penang, Lim Skin Specialist Clinic and Gleneagles Hospital Penang dermatology are both led by specialists.

  • Skin pigmentation / hyperpigmentation
  • Dark spots
  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Melasma

Technology and equipment

UR Klinik does not name the brand or maker of any device it uses. The Light Therapy treatments run under an in-house name, "Goldius Glam". The 3D skin analysis system is also unbranded on the site.

In general terms, light-based pigment treatments send pulses of energy into the skin. The pigment absorbs that energy and then breaks down, and the body clears it over the following weeks. Melasma is often harder to treat and can return, so expect a course and ongoing sun care.

The clinic's research page cites published studies on Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers, pulsed dye lasers and HIFU for melasma. However, it does not say these machines are used in its Penang outlets. So at your consultation, ask which device will treat you, what wavelength it uses, and whether it is registered with Malaysia's Medical Device Authority.

Pricing at UR Klinik

UR Klinik prices are not published online. The site promotes a first-trial offer, but it gives no price for it in the page text. We also found no fee list for consultations, skin analysis or treatment courses.

So ask for figures before you commit. Useful questions include the cost of the trial and what it covers, and whether the 3D skin analysis and consultation carry a fee. Then ask how many sessions the doctor expects and the full cost of that course. Finally, check whether the price is the same at every Penang outlet.

Location, parking and branches

UR Klinik has two outlets on Penang Island and two on the mainland, so most people can pick one close to home. All four keep the same opening hours.

Island outlets

  • Gurney: No 51, Jalan Kelawai, George Town. It sits near Gurney Drive, so it suits people living or working in the northern part of the island.
  • Greenlane: 1A, Jalan Delima, Island Glades. This one is better for people in the middle of the island.

Mainland outlets

  • Raja Uda (Butterworth): 11 & 13, Jalan Villa Tanjung, Villa Tanjung, Butterworth. The clinic's own pages also give an older Jalan Raja Uda address, so check the pin before you drive.
  • Bukit Mertajam: 11 & 11A Lorong Bukit Minyak Utama 2, Taman Bukit Minyak Utama. This is the original outlet, and it suits people in central Seberang Perai.

Choosing your side

If you live on the mainland, the Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam outlets save you a bridge or ferry crossing. On the island, choose Gurney for the north and Greenlane for the middle. Parking details are not published for any outlet, so call ahead to ask.

Opening hours

All four Penang outlets open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm and close every Sunday. Public holiday hours are not stated, so call the outlet before you visit on a holiday.

What patients say about UR Klinik

On 14 October 2026, the Google Maps listing for UR Klinik Bukit Mertajam showed 5.0 stars. Each outlet has its own listing. Google hides the review count when you are not signed in, so we cannot say how many reviews it covers. The themes below come from testimonials on the clinic's own site, which the clinic chooses, plus one independent roundup.

Patients often describe the doctors and staff as friendly and caring. Several say the doctors listened and explained things in detail. Others mention a clean, comfortable setting, and some report visible change in a short time. In addition, a third-party roundup calls the clinic results-focused and no-nonsense.

On the other side, we did not find negative themes in the sources we checked. However, that is not the same as having none. Self-selected testimonials rarely show complaints, so read independent reviews before you book.

Who this clinic is best for

UR Klinik suits adults who want help with freckles, age spots, sun spots or uneven tone, and who like a fixed, step-by-step process. It is also handy for mainland residents, since two outlets sit in Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam.

However, look elsewhere if you need a medical diagnosis, a changing mole checked, or care for skin disease. A dermatologist-led clinic such as Lim Skin Specialist Clinic is a better first stop for that. Also, if you want a named device, such as a specific pico laser brand, pick a clinic that publishes its equipment.

How to book

The simplest way to book is the central hotline and WhatsApp number, 012-496 1656. Each Penang outlet also has its own landline and mobile number, listed on the official contact page.

Before you go, note how long you have had the pigment and list any creams you use. Then, at the consultation, ask which doctor will treat you, which device they use, and the full price of the course.
